Spotlights
Spotlights are a versatile and stylish way to light your home, offering focused illumination that’s perfect for everything from highlighting features to brightening busy living spaces. Whether you're updating your kitchen, bathroom, hallway, or living room, we have a wide range of spotlights to choose from.
Our spotlight collection includes recessed spotlights for a sleek, modern finish, single spotlights for targeted lighting, and bar mounted or plate mounted spotlights to light larger areas with ease. We also offer a fantastic selection of LED spotlights for energy-efficient lighting, along with practical clamp-on spotlights that can be easily repositioned wherever you need them.
With over 35 years’ experience in lighting, we carefully select our spotlight fittings from trusted brands known for quality, performance, and style. Whether you're looking for subtle recessed designs or adjustable spotlights to create different lighting moods, you’ll find plenty of options in our range.
If you need any advice on choosing the right spotlight for your space, our knowledgeable, friendly team is always on hand to help.
Spotlights FAQ
How many spotlights do I need for my room?
It depends on the size and shape of the room, but a common guide is to allow one spotlight for every 1 to 1.5 square metres of ceiling space. For example, a 12m² room would typically need around 8–10 spotlights for even coverage. However, the number can vary based on the brightness of each light and the effect you're trying to achieve — sometimes fewer, brighter spotlights will work just as well.
What is the difference between recessed and surface-mounted spotlights?
Recessed spotlights are installed directly into the ceiling, creating a clean, modern look where only the light itself is visible. Surface-mounted spotlights, like bar mounted or plate mounted designs, are fixed onto the ceiling surface and can often be adjusted to direct light exactly where you need it. Surface-mounted options are ideal if you want flexible, directional lighting without making major changes to your ceiling.
Are spotlights suitable for all rooms?
Spotlights are incredibly versatile and can be used throughout the home. They're especially popular in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways, and living rooms where flexible and focused lighting is needed. Just remember that if you’re installing spotlights in bathrooms, you'll need fittings with the correct IP rating for safety.
Are LED spotlights dimmable?
Many LED spotlights are dimmable, but it’s important to check the product details to be sure. You’ll also need to pair your dimmable LED spotlight with a compatible dimmer switch designed specifically for LED lighting.
What is the difference between spotlights and downlights?
Downlights are usually recessed into the ceiling and shine straight down to provide general ambient lighting. Spotlights, on the other hand, can often be adjusted to direct light exactly where you want it — for example, highlighting artwork, worktops, or architectural features. Spotlights also come in more surface-mounted and adjustable options compared to traditional downlights.
Can I install spotlights myself?
If you're simply replacing an existing spotlight like-for-like, it may be possible to do it yourself if you feel confident. However, if you're installing new spotlights, especially recessed ones or any fittings that involve new wiring, it’s always safest to use a qualified electrician. This ensures that the lights are installed safely and comply with building regulations, particularly in rooms like kitchens and bathrooms.
